Progress is Being Made

Things are progressing slowly at Aussie Mates.  Mark has stripped out the old kitchen fittings and 1.5 inches of floor coverings on the kitchen floor.  Australian floral wallpaper has been hung in the bedrooms and the dining room.  Paint is being applied to the walls and the new flooring and kitchen has been ordered.  Two of the rooms are ready for occupancy but the bathrooms need to be updated before we can open.  The dining chairs have arrived but I’m still waiting for the 12-seat vintage dining table.

This is the eucalypt room.  It is the largest room with the smallest bathroom.  You can see the wallpaper here.

Unfortunately, the sunroom and deck additions are beyond saving so I have called in an architect to plan replacements.

I officially retired 24 February from the Department of Education and Training.  It was a momentous decision to end my career after all the work I put in and all the great (I really, really mean it) people I’ve worked with since 1998.

We have has some trees and shrubs removed to improve the views and drainage.

I’ve started a course to become a Master Gardner in Middle Tennessee.  I have to learn how to garden all over again and I’m learning heaps.  I won’t be growing veggies!

The previous owner was an enthusiastic handyman and Mark has been removing a lot of his ‘handy’ work.  In the US, homeowners are allowed to modify their own electrical system and we are amazed that the house hadn’t burnt down.  You don’t want your electrician to say ‘worst I’ve ever seen’ like ours did while in the garage.

The weather has been quite strange.  It has been very warm and flies and butterflies have been seen but then it turns cold and they die off.  Plants have been blooming early.  It will be interesting to see how the spring and summer progresses.
